With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, everyone and their mother’s brother are hyping up dark horses for the upcoming season. Most of this advice is total crap. That is why The Touchback is here with the 2022 fantasy football sleepers you should avoid entirely.
You should really be thanking us considering the landscape is currently awash with truly awful picks or spam SEO articles like this gem from CBS Sports. Seriously, the section labeled “top 2022 fantasy football sleepers” has one guy–Javonte Williams. That is some total nonsense.
Speaking of nonsense, there are plenty of other experts throwing out 2022 fantasy football sleepers that you’ll want to avoid. Although most of these are no brainers, if we’re being honest.

Five 2022 fantasy football sleepers to avoid
Devin Duvernay
WR / Baltimore Ravens
Source: Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
46. 33. 31. Those are the number of catches the Baltimore Ravens second wide receiver has managed in the Lamar Jackson era. It’s not a fantasy viable role. So, while the team traded Marquise Brown, he’s being replaced by Rashod Bateman. And who replaces him is irrelevant because that player isn’t catching many passes.
J.D. McKissic
Source: FantasyPros
Of all the 2022 fantasy football sleepers to avoid, this is the one you should pay attention. How in the world is J.D. McKissic going to do anything this season when Nyheim Hines just posted his worst year as a pro? These are basically the same running back. And while the latter has been freed from a Carson Wentz-induced purgatory, the former is about to become an afterthought. Washington quarterbacks were all about checkdowns. Wentz not so much. McKissic has no value with him under center.
Derrius Guice
RB / Free Agents

This was a thing someone actually wrote. Good luck with all that.
David Montgomery
RB / Chicago Bears
Source: Multiple Websites
David Montgomery is in no way, shape or form a sleeper. His ADP will fall somewhere between the late 3rd to early 5th round and, if lucky, the Bears running back plods to a low-end RB2 finish. After three seasons of seeing him play, we know that is his ceiling. Hyping him up as a potential top-6 RB just seems disingenuous. More importantly, there will be better options available around this part of your fantasy draft.
Austin Hooper
TE / Tennessee Titans
Source: Turron Davenport (ESPN)
I bought into the Anthony Firkser hype last season and was burned. Let’s be real, Austin Hooper was signed by the Tennessee Titans because he is a good blocking tight end, and the team wants to give the ball to Derrick Henry as much as possible. His numbers will be identical to what he posted with Cleveland during the last two years. Those made him a touchdown-dependent streamer not a sleeper.
