Looking for a good NFL player prop bet this year? There are a few interesting options available at various sportsbooks. Obviously, the football betting world loves Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson to win both MVP and AP Offensive Player of the Year, but odds for those sit at less than +1000. We can do better than that.
The AP Comeback Player of the Year is shaping up to be an interesting race. There are a lot of well-known candidates with a chance to win the award in 2020. However, if you look beyond the star power, you will find a very good NFL player prop bet no one is talking about at the moment.
The sneaky good NFL player prop bet for 2020
Denver Broncos defensive end Bradley Chubb currently sits at +3300 on FanDuel Sportsbook to win AP Comeback Player of the Year. The former first-round draft pick suffered a partial ACL tear in week 4 of last season and seems to have fallen off the face of the earth, which may be a good thing for bettors.
The team has revealed that Chubb is already at full speed and will be a full go whenever training camps get underway. Prior to the injury, big things were expected for Chubb under the tutelage of head coach Vic Fangio and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell with some thinking a Khalil Mack-like season could be on the cards. With Von Miller across the field, offensive protections couldn’t scheme him out of the game.
Chubb was impressive as a rookie with 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, 21 QB hits and 14 tackles for a loss. More importantly, the Broncos upgraded their defense during the offseason by adding Jurrell Casey and A.J. Bouye. Bryce Callahan will also return to the field after missing all of 2019 due to complications from a lingering foot injury.
At +3300, Chubb winning AP Comeback Player of the Year is a sneaky good NFL player prop bet. He should put up the numbers to do it and all the other favorites have major question marks heading into the season.
The 2020 AP Comeback Player of the Year field
Let’s take a look at some of the other 2020 AP Comeback Player of the Year bets.
Ben Roethlisberger (+260) – Big Ben is the bookmakers’ favorite, but it’s near impossible to get a read on what exactly the Pittsburgh Steelers offense will bring to the table with a 38-year old quarterback that may not be in peak physical condition.
Cam Newton (+340) – Now in New England, Newton has a good chance to win AP Comeback Player of the Year if the Patriots make the playoffs and he is healthy. Neither is a given, however.
Rob Gronkowski (+420) – The last time we saw Gronk on a football field, he could barely run and was more of a decoy than anything else. Even after a season away from the NFL, it’s hard to see him putting up the numbers required to win the award with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Matthew Stafford (+700) – The thing working against Stafford is the fact he played in eight games last season and wasn’t placed on IR until December. The Detroit Lions’ QB just doesn’t feel like a comeback story.
A.J. Green (+900) – Who really knows what will happen with Green in 2020. What if he gets traded by the Cincinnati Bengals in season? What if he doesn’t go full speed in order to protect himself for one, last big contract? There are a lot of question marks around him.
