Fantasy football drops for week 7

QB – Nick Foles, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are 5-1 this season while boasting one of the best defenses in the NFL. However, they have failed to score more than 20 points three times this season and Nick Foles has yet to top 250 yards in the four games he has played in.

He has also thrown an interception in every game since taking the starting role. The Bears don’t have a lot of explosive weapons on that offense besides Allen Robinson III. They are near the bottom when it comes to passing yards and points per game. Chicago is winning with Foles serving as a game manager and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.

WR – Marvin Jones, Detroit Lions

Marvin Jones has been on a steady decline since the season started. I had him as one of my dark horses in the preseason, but he has failed to produce like I thought he would. He has only been targeted 24 times in 2020 while getting into the endzone just once. With Kenny Golladay missing the first 2 games, Jones scored double digit points only once. And since Golladay’s return, Jones has been a non-factor.

The straw the broke the camel’s back came on Sunday when Jones could only muster eight yards on two catches. The Lions, who have traditionally been a pass heavy team, look like they’ve been trying to balance out their offense with more rushing this year. And with D’Andre Swift breaking out against Jacksonville, they may look to double down on the run game.

RB – Jerick McKinnon, San Francisco 49ers

There may be some desire to take a wait and see approach with Jerick McKinnon now that Raheem Mostert looks to be sidelined for a few weeks. However, JaMycal Hasty out touched Jet 9-8 despite not seeing the field until the fourth quarter. More than 25 percent of McKinnon’s rushing output this season came on a 55-yard run against the New York Jets which is also something you might want to note.

It’s clear that McKinnon will have a role on pass catching downs for the San Francisco 49ers but the return to health of George Kittle and Deebo Samuel has depressed that. McKinnon was limited to four catches for 15 yards during the past two weeks.

TE – Drew Sample, Cincinnati Bengals

The darling of week 3 waiver wire has been a disappointment since. Drew Sample was predicted to slide right into a juicy role after C.J. Uzomah tore his Achilles but only has six receptions and failed to catch a single pass last week in a game that saw Joe Burrow throw for more than 300 yards. If he isn’t getting looks in favorable game scripts, it doesn’t look like Sample will be a true threat in the Bengals passing game.
