Get a top 3 tight end or wait

According to some excellent fantasy football research by Alex Cates, there is a winning strategy when it comes to drafting Tight Ends.

In short, his research suggests that if you are able to draft Kelce, Waller or Kittle in the early rounds, it is wise to do so. If you miss out on them then you are best served by skipping the middle rounds of TEs and waiting until later. The latter ploy is something we’ve explored with the tight end zero strategy.

Should you miss out on the premier tight ends, the optimal target becomes Logan Thomas.

Draft Logan Thomas: A man overlooked

Logan Thomas
Logan Thomas is coming off the best year of his career.

In 2020, Logan Thomas was the the TE3 overall in PPR leagues (TE7 in standard). Despite that, he is still coming off the board in the 9th round of fantasy drafts (10-team leagues).

There is no reason that he should be faded this hard. If anything, he is in a much better position this year than he was last year.

2021 will be even better

Through week 8 of the 2020 season, Logan Thomas only had 21 catches. He improved greatly in the second half, finishing with 72 total receptions.

Additionally, the upgrade from Haskins, Alex Smith and the rest to Fitzmagic might be one of the best QB improvements in the league this year. Passing volume in Washington will increase greatly.

Furthermore, the development of Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson makes it impossible for defenses to key in on stopping Thomas. He may see slightly fewer targets due to improved competition, but they will be higher quality targets; he has a great chance at surpassing his 2020 TD total of six.

A low-risk, late-round, top-5 TE

What are you looking for? A higher upside guy?

Logan Thomas is a proven tight end in the best situation of his career. He can be had late in drafts, allowing you to build a powerful RB/WR core without risking weakness at TE.
