Will Kellen Mond, Davis Mills or Kyle Trask have fantasy dynasty value in the coming years?

The quarterbacks taken in the 2021 NFL Draft are talented. And while they might not all achieve greatness, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones are currently household names.

Some of them are already starters and others have gotten off to dubious starts but a few might achieve greatness just yet. Of course, one or two may be out of the league in a few years (not mentioning any names!).

The three forgotten quarterbacks from the 2021 NFL draft

The second and third rounds of the 2021 NFL draft featured a secondary run on quarterbacks with Kyle Trask, Kellen Mond and Davis Mills all taken.

Halfway through the 2021 season, let’s take a look at how these forgotten quarterbacks are progressing.

The jury is still out on Kellen Mond

Kellen Mond did not have the best preseason for Minnesota

While Kellen Mond has yet to see any regular season action, he did see playing time in the preseason. His preseason box scores were unimpressive, but there were a few brief, bright moments.

Mond had a solid collegiate career that, on paper, appears to translate well to the NFL. His biggest obstacle to playing time, however, is Kirk Cousins. Kirk is having one of the best years of his career and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Dynasty Analysis:

Mond is an interesting prospect, but it would take a Kirk Cousins injury for him to have fantasy relevance. His rushing ability makes him interesting should he play but that’s not a lock to happen.

If you are in a 2QB or Superflex league with a taxi squad and no QB-cap, he may be worth holding. Otherwise, we recommend putting him on your watchlist and keeping an eye on Minnesota’s situation as the year progresses.

Davis Mills

Davis Mills doesn’t really look ready for primetime

Davis Mills is the only quarterback in this group to have seen playing time this season. While he does appear to have great arm strength, he being employed as a game manager by the Texans. His passing accuracy is excellent, but he is not getting anything down the field.

Take a look at his box scores:

5 TDs / 6 INTS on the year is not the best look, but he is a rookie

More important than anything in the box score, Mills has led Houston to six straight losses. Only one of the games was even close.

Dynasty Analysis:

With Tyrod Taylor ready to return to action, Mills will be relegated to the bench. And unless Tyrod is significantly re-injured, Mills is likely to stay there.

Mills’ high completion percentage masks a low yards per attempt that shows he’s fairly ineffective. We would be surprised to see a team hand intentionally hand a starting position to the Stanford product anytime soon.

Leave him on the wire.

Kyle Trask

Kyle Trask may not start initially, but he has a history of working his way up a depth chart

Kyle Trask is a difficult player to evaluate.

He had a very successful college career, finishing as a Heisman candidate with the Gators. But he also couldn’t beat out Felipe Franks and needed an injury to get the starting gig. Trask also never started in high school, instead playing mop up duty behind D’Eriq King.

His play is excellent when he does get on the field, but he’s always had talent around him. If Trask were suddenly thrown into a starting role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he would have a similar luxury of talented offensive weapons.

Dynasty Analysis:

There is a no chance Trask takes Tom Brady’s starting role. That being said, Trask is learning the QB position in the very best of circumstances. If Brady were to go down unexpectedly, it’s possible he has some fantasy success.

Personally, we would leave him on the waiver wire. But there is a real chance that Trask would surprise a lot of people if given the opportunity like he did at Florida. However, with Brady seemingly able to play forever, Trask may retire before he does.
