Here’s the deal. I literally had no idea why Jake Paul was famous until reading his Wikipedia page. Turns out the guy is a big social media attraction. He also took part in a ridiculous education scam and has done a bunch of really dumb things over the years.

In the ring, watching Jake Paul the boxer isn’t terrible. His fights are certainly events and dude understands what it means to be a heel. Half the battle is getting people to buy tickets and pay-per-views and the former Vine star has shown an ability to do that.

He is now 5-0 in the squared circle after a pretty flush knockout of Tyron Woodley in the sixth round of their fight. This was a rematch between Paul and the one-time UFC champion after the quasi-celebrity won via a split decision early this year.

And while watching Jake Paul the boxer isn’t an awful experience, it is clear as day he’ll never be a professional.

What we learned watching Jake Paul the boxer

Paul’s victories read like a Johnny Carson, Carnac the Magnificent joke. A former UFC title holder, an NBA Slam Dunk champion, a YouTube performer and an MMA fighter known for eating a knee. Who are the competitors Jake Paul has beaten?

Realistically speaking, this is his talent level. Guys who have an athletic background and know how to train but are just as inexperienced in the ring as Paul. Everyone has a puncher’s chance. Well, maybe not poor Nate Robinson.

If there was one thing that was clear throughout the most recent fight against Woodley, it is that Paul is never, ever going to be good enough to be a professional. The first five rounds showed his lack of skills. He doesn’t seem to be improving much as a fighter and would likely struggle to move up the ranks of the Springfield Hobo Boxing Association.

That is totally fine. Paul is a sideshow, clown and not particularly smart. He can keep cherry picking MMA fighters in contests that are more entertainment spectacles than boxing matches. And that’s why watching Jake Paul the boxer isn’t terrible. Also, it is nice knowing one day someone will put him to sleep.
