Finding a way too early Super Bowl 57 winner to bet on
1) You need a good QB
Apart from the 2015 Denver Broncos, every Super Bowl winning team has gotten at least good quarterback play. Joe Flacco was above average for the 2011 Baltimore Ravens and Carson Wentz was putting up MVP type numbers for the Eagles before getting injured. Even then, Nick Foles was still solid. More importantly, the eventual champs went into the season confident about their passer. This rules out teams like the Cleveland Browns who aren’t sold on their signal caller.
2) You can’t have sucked the year before
The worst a team finished the season before winning a Super Bowl in recent times was 7-9. This would disqualify the 7-10 Seattle Seahawks along with a bunch of other sides who you wouldn’t be inclined to wager on anyway.
3) Don’t worry about the coach
There are no noticeable trends about the head coach who wins the Super Bowl. Gary Kubiak won it in his first season with Denver and other coaches did so in their second season. Bill Belichick has obviously won the title a bunch of times. It took Andy Reid forever before securing his ring. At the end of the day, don’t stress about who the head coach is, although we would avoid Mike McCarthy like the plague.
The Touchback’s way too early Super Bowl 57 winner to bet on
While there are several sides that meet our criteria and seem likely to avoid major upheaval in the offseason, we have our eye on three. The Buffalo Bills are the favorite to win Super Bowl 57 at +700. You can also make a strong case for them, but this would be a very boring wager.
The Arizona Cardinals have all the pieces to put together a Super Bowl run including a quarterback and head coach who should both be motivated. Ultimately, their weird late seasons slumps scare us away though.
That brings us to The Touchback’s way too early Super Bowl 57 winner to bet on…the Los Angeles Chargers. Offensively, a lot of parts are currently in place including a great quarterback. The team does need to fix its defense but having Derwin James and Joey Bosa already on board is a nice start. Besides, plenty of terrible defensive units have turned it around in a season’s time. Plus, LA is flush with cap space and has draft picks to plug its holes.
Best of all, the Chargers are +2400 to win the Super Bowl over on Fanduel Sportsbook. It’s worth a $10 bet.
