Most MLB teams have a little less than 100 games left to play which means there is still plenty of time remaining in the season. That being said, the Houston Astros are a lock to win the AL West, and it seems unlikely any AL East team will catch up to the New York Yankees. There are a few MLB division winner underdog bets worth placing money on, however.
Two sides have caught our eye here at The Touchback, although we could make a case for a third in St. Louis. Ultimately, the odds (+110) along with the Cardinals’ insistence on starting Albert Pujols means we’re passing on them. With that out of the way, here are the MLB division winner underdog bets currently worth placing money on. Odds via Fanduel Sportsbook.

San Diego Padres (+250) to win the NL West
The Los Angeles Dodgers are second in the NL West as of publication. Not only that, the boys in blue didn’t win the division last year. There is no reason to think the San Diego Padres can’t pip them to the crown in 2022. Especially considering they have been playing without Fernando Tatis Jr. who will be back in the near future.
Oddsmakers are really slow to move off the betting favorites which is why the Dodgers are still so far out in front. We saw this last year in the AL East as well as with the LA Lakers in basketball. This isn’t to say San Diego is a lock or anything, but +250 is extremely favorable given the current circumstances.
Cleveland Guardians (+480) to win the AL Central
There is a lot of talk about how the Chicago White Sox could be this year’s Atlanta Braves. That seems unlikely with the clueless Tony LaRussa manning the ship. The Minnesota Twins currently lead the AL Central, although they have next to no healthy starting pitchers.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians have the division’s best run differential as well all the pieces required to finish atop the standings. Their starting pitching is good, they have an elite closer along with a solid bullpen and Jose Ramirez is one of the best players in baseball.
This isn’t a sexy pick, especially since the front office won’t add a much-needed bat before the trade deadline, but it’s not as if the Twins or White Sox are any better.
