Seeing Yung Joc do the motorcycle dance in the It’s Goin’ Down music video for the first time was a life-changing moment. Okay, so maybe life changing is an exaggeration. But this remains one of only a few times I can remember where a rapper busted out a dance move that looked cool.
Let’s be real, 2006 was not exactly 12 months to write home about. There was Kobe Bryant dropping 81 on the Toronto Raptors, Dick Cheney shooting someone and Yung Joc doing the motorcycle dance. That’s basically the year in review unless you care about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes having a kid.
The dance itself, also known as Joc-in, definitely became one of those things white people ruined. Yung Joc looked cool when he showcased the move in It’s Goin’ Down. Clint Dempsey tried it while celebrating a goal in a World Cup warmup match against Venezuela and his attempt at the dance was ridiculous.
A few years later, the motorcycle dance appeared during an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Not even bending the bike could save it.

Yung Joc and the motorcycle dance hide a fairly plain music video
Once you get past Yung Joc doing the motorcycle dance, the It’s Goin’ Down music video is pretty dull. Nothing notable happens and there are no interesting cameos. What makes that baffling is the fact Joc was signed to Bad Boy Records (technically Bad Boy South), a label known for over-the-top productions.

It’s Goin Down is the foundation for Get Like Me
When David Banner released Get Like Me, it contained several lines from It’s Goin’ Down. Both, of course, feature Yung Joc, but research is inconclusive on how the song came to be. Did Banner request to use the lines or was it Joc who suggested them for the hook?
Unlike Jay-Z and Nas, Banner took a line from a hot song to make another hot song. The music video for Get Like Me is wild with Barry Bonds and the Maloof brothers among those to appear. It was certainly more interesting than It’s Goin’ Down.
