There is something that makes Ben Savage an extremely unlikeable political candidate. It’s hard to put a finger on why, though. His policies are all sound. He graduated from Stanford University with a political science degree and served as an intern in the US Senate. Let’s not forget his starring role on Boy Meets World.

Savage is a sound political candidate in many ways. And yet, the thought of him in politics is unpleasant. This isn’t just me complaining about something either. The TV star was resoundingly rejected by voters when he ran for West Hollywood City Council in 2022.
By the way, he ran for one of three open seats in that race and could only muster a seventh-place finish. That is not good, and it’s hard to blame the entire result on the awful Girl Meets World which had been canceled for years at that point. Simply put, voters didn’t respond to him.
That reality makes his announcement to run for Congress even more baffling. Savage couldn’t muster enough votes to win a seat on the West Hollywood City Council. In what world does he think a run for the US House of Representatives is going to be more successful?
Let’s use a college football analogy to make sense of things. The actor’s decision is akin to Kent State losing to Northern Illinois in MAC-action and then deciding to play the Cleveland Browns a few weeks later. Sure, he can try, but expecting anything other than a rout is foolish.
Also, please spare me your “anything is possible” and “you don’t know if you don’t try” takes. That logic is fine in certain situations. But sometimes you need to read the room. Voters don’t believe you are West Hollywood City Council material. That isn’t a sign you should run for a higher office.
As for why Ben Savage is an extremely unlikeable political candidate, maybe it’s his face. Maybe it’s his demeanor or the way he talks. Something about the package makes you not want to vote for him even when he’s making good points and laying out a respectable campaign platform.
On the plus side, at least he doesn’t fund his campaign by doing interracial porn like Marjorie Taylor Greene.
