TV ads are usually mundane affairs. Every once in a while though, one will have a moment so ridiculous, so logic-defying, that it’s impossible to let go. Examples of this include the CarShield spot quoting Thomas Paine or Safelite using employees still on probation to promote their company. That brings us to the Haagen-Dazs butter cookie cone commercial.
There is no need to watch the entire thing which is standard fare. Just check out the last few moments of this 15-second ad.
What are we doing here? Don’t eat the bottom of an ice cream cone. It’s one of the stupidest things a person can do. It’s not like we’re talking about a pizza where eating the crust first doesn’t fundamentally ruin the experience. If you remove the bottom of an ice cream cone, you’re going to have a bad time.
Look, I understand the thought process behind the Haagen-Dazs butter cookie cone commercial. They want to show that the cone is delicious. But this is the dumbest way to accomplish said goal. The moment you eat the bottom, your clothes will end up covered in melted ice cream. It would be an absolute disaster—the food dining equivalent of the Titanic.

Also, has anyone at Haagen-Dazs ate a butter cookie? It is a middling cookie at best. The difference between it and a traditional ice cream cone is nominal. And it’s certainly not better than ice cream. Not even close.
Of course, I know what some of you are saying; this doesn’t matter because it’s just a TV commercial. But if you’re going to spend millions of dollars on an ad campaign, don’t let it get derailed by a ridiculous error. If this individual is the type of person who consumes a Haagen-Dazs butter cookie cone, the product is likely going to be awful because only an idiot would do this.
But by all means, eat the bottom off an ice cream cone and have fun dealing with the consequences. I’m sure that the first bite of a mediocre cookie will be more than worth the melting timebomb left in your hands. Or not.
