Seeing the Denver Nuggets win the NBA Championship was enjoyable from a neutral perspective. It is a solid team that is fun to watch. However, all the talk throughout the NBA Playoffs was focused less on the team and more on a lack of coverage from ESPN and other mainstream media outlets.
That gripe, by the way, is entirely accurate. The Worldwide Leader in Sports will give Stephen A. Smith an infinite amount of time to talk about a very mediocre New York Knicks team, but no one could muster more than a few words on the Nuggets who just happened to be the best team in basketball.
Not only was this annoying but it neglected an important reality. Denver, and Colorado as a whole, is an underrated sports fanbase. The only reason this doesn’t get brought up more frequently is because they aren’t a bunch of myopic losers too wrapped up in the performance of their local teams.
Don’t get me wrong. People in Colorado love their teams like they love their state. It’s not like Florida where people only care when their sides are winning. However, it is not a life-or-death thing either. That is very healthy. It is also a byproduct of living in one of America’s nicest locations.
It must be said, Denver Broncos fans can be kind of douchy. They are certainly the worst group out of the city’s four major sports teams. That may also be a byproduct of being in the AFC West where you also have the Chiefs and Raiders, two other wildly over-the-top fanbases.

Denver is very reasonable as a sports fanbase. Having come across numerous Colorado sports followers during my world travels over the years, they know and follow their teams. If they win, that’s great. If they lose, so be it. There aren’t these wild mood swings you’ll see other fanbases go through.
Overall, most interactions you’ll have with this group will be pleasant apart from the few superfan or Bad Dad types that do exist. Average Denver fans roll their eyes at those folks. Eat shit Lauren Boebert.
So, congratulations to the Denver Nuggets for winning the NBA Championship and once again proving the city is an underrated sports fanbase. Now if only the Colorado Rockies would get their act together.
