I remember seeing Webbie and the Give Me That music video for the first time and thinking something had been censored, I just didn’t know what. My response after hearing the original version was something along the lines of, “Oh, that’s something.”
Look, we can all agree that the message Webbie raps about on Give Me That is not appropriate. It wasn’t cool in 2005 when it first dropped, and it certainly isn’t cool in 2023. However, music, like all forms of art and entertainment, isn’t meant to be taken literally.
That is why the song remains catchy to this day. Clubs still play Give Me That and it hasn’t been banned despite a very questionable message. Assuming you can differentiate between art and reality, it is possible to appreciate the track in all its ridiculous glory. Of course, not everyone can but more on that in a minute.
A special mention to Bun B for his verse here. Webbie is not a particularly strong MC due to what is either laziness or a total lack of creativity. However, the Texas native comes up with something better than it has any right to be. The same goes for his cameo in the music video.

Look you know you want it
Girl don’t act like you don’t want it
Girl you want it just as bad as I do
Best Video Moment: The annoyingly messed up collar of Webbie’s polo shirt.
Webbie really lived the Give Me That life
Remember when I was talking about understanding the difference between art and reality? Well, sometimes art imitates life. It turns out Webbie really lived the Give Me That life. In 2011, he was banned from BET’s “106 & Park” after sexually harassing host Rocsi. Here is what she said about the incident:
“When you’re at your job and somebody sexually harasses you in a manner that is very vulgar and disgusting, I have no shame in sticking up for myself and telling you you are improper right now. I’m at work we are on a set, there are children around us, you’re really out of line right now.”
On the other hand, Webbie kept living that life by claiming he engaged in some sexy talk between adults. There are also plenty of other videos out there where he states to have done nothing wrong.
Anyway, Give Me That is an entertaining if not preposterous rap music video for those able to separate entertainment from reality. However, those who can’t should probably not watch it. And no one should ever sexually harass anyone.
