In a recent video, Casey Pratt asked where are the A’s stadium renderings for their Las Vegas ballpark. He made a lot of good points, as he usually does, but for me, one thing sticks out the most. The Oakland A’s Las Vegas stadium renderings must be awful.
We know they exist because MGM Resorts International CEO Bill Hornbuckle told investors he already saw them. Why he has seen them and not the public is a mystery. Maybe the Nevada taxpayers being asked to fund the ballpark should have the first look.
We also know the process is being done as cheaply and as poorly as possible. In fact, the process has been described as similar to that of PayPal Park. Ah yes, PayPal Park, a stadium is so poorly designed that players must go up and down a flight of stairs to get to the pitch. A stadium so cheap, that Dave Kaval tried to hype it having the world’s largest outdoor bar. Of course, this is really code for, we’re too cheap to finish the damn thing, here’s a big table where you can buy booze.
We know why the Oakland A’s Las Vegas stadium renderings haven’t been released. They are absolutely terrible and will be a source of much scorn. A cheap, rinky-dink venue that not only doesn’t compare to Howard Terminal but will look like a joke compared to most other new stadiums that have opened in America.
As bad and as flawed as those initial and clearly fake renderings were, they will most likely be better than whatever Fisher and friends have come up with. Because if they weren’t the team would have already released something.
