FSU being snubbed from the College Football Playoff is the start of a bigger problem. Watch the video above to find out what this is. Be sure to check out The Touchback on YouTube for more videos.
Florida State got screwed. No two ways around it. The College Football Playoff committee decided it wanted an SEC team in the field and then reverse-engineered things from there.
It’s a travesty and one that flies in the face of what the sport should be about…a meritocracy that settles things on the field, not the bank or a crappy airport hotel conference room. However, this is just the start of a huge College Football Playoff problem.
Everyone says there won’t be any issues with the College Football Playoff when the field expands from four to 12 next year. Uhh, what? If this group can’t even select the best four teams in the country, how in the world can anyone expect them to get things right when there are more sides to include?
The issue with Florida State being left out of the College Football Playoff is that it sets a terrible precedent.
When you look at the teams ranked 9-20 in the CFP Rankings, there is almost nothing between them. Ole Miss, Penn State, and Missouri only have two losses, but none played in a conference championship game and probably aren’t the best teams right now.
And remember, wins and losses don’t matter. The only thing that really seems to matter is how a group of administrators view how your team is going to perform at a specific moment in time. The logic used to place Alabama and Texas in the CFP should also be used to give Arizona a spot in an expanded playoff.
Of course, it won’t work like that. What the College Football Playoff committee has actually done is give itself a way to manipulate its selections in the future to ensure it is able to pack the postseason with as many Big 10 and SEC schools as possible while disregarding what happens on the field. That’s what we are doing here, squeezing out anyone who can take a slice of their pie.
