The Camden Yards saga embodies everything fans hate about MLB. You have one of the league’s best stadiums and, despite this, Baltimore Orioles Chairman & CEO John Angelos spent most of the summer refusing to commit to it. The O’s were never a flight risk, but there was also absolutely no need to act in a greedy, selfish manner.

The team eventually signed a 30-year lease that can be extended twice, each covering five years. That’s great news but it also begs the question: why did we need to go through this song and dance in the first place? Everyone agrees that Camden Yards is a wonderful place to catch a game. I was blown away by its awesomeness despite the thing being nearly 30 years old.

This will be one of MLB’s great institutions alongside Fenway and Wrigley Field in the future. And yet all of that was cast aside so a dude who is nothing more than a byproduct of luck and nepotism could try and nickel and dime taxpayers out of a few more dollars.

The MLB has the need…the need for greed. Learn why in the video above.
