In theory, you could make a case that all 2023 1st round rookies should be avoided in fantasy football redraft leagues. This year’s crop of wide receivers was extremely weak, the running backs enter questionable situations and predicting success for first-year quarterbacks is like throwing a dart blindfolded.
On the other hand, Bijan Robinson is talented enough to overcome dreadful quarterback play. Meanwhile, the upside of Bryce Young makes him worth a gamble and playing alongside Justin Jefferson should create plenty of open looks for Jordan Addison.
This isn’t rocket science, but let’s explore the 1st round rookies you should avoid in fantasy football redraft leagues. These are players who won’t produce enough to be viable starters.

Dalton Kincaid and other 1st round rookies to avoid in fantasy football redraft leagues
Dalton Kincaid
Rookie tight ends typically struggle. But that is only one part of the equation here. The Buffalo Bills have some very unpredictable usage patterns. Look no further than Gabe Davis last season or the inconsistent performance of the team’s other tight end, Dawson Knox. The Utah product has a lot of upside. However, it’s unlikely to be realized in 2023.
Zay Flowers
Sure, Lamar Jackson has a new contract, but his passing volume when healthy has been disappointing over the past few seasons. Additionally, the Baltimore Ravens already have Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman and Odell Beckham Jr. That offense doesn’t pass the ball enough to support four pass catchers. Maybe Flowers can move up the depth chart, but even then, that may not lead to a whole heap of targets.
C.J. Stroud
C.J. Stroud offers almost no rushing upside and has arguably the weakest group of wide receivers in the NFL. Robert Woods looked done last season, Nico Collins has yet to prove he is a starter and there is nothing beyond those two. Dalton Schultz will post nice numbers. Overall, it’s difficult to see how the Ohio State passer cracks the top-15 fantasy football quarterbacks this season. There is also the fact that Ohio State QBs have routinely disappointed as professionals.
