Joe Biden is in a no-win situation when it comes to his VP selection.
All the obvious VP choices alienate one or more of the following groups: Bernie Sanders supporters, black voters, suburbanites, critical swing state voters. Let’s face it, Biden’s campaign can’t afford to jeopardize these voting blocks. To win, he needs them all.
Here’s how he does it.
The Joe Biden VP selection strategy
Biden should announce Kamala Harris as his official VP. He said he will pick a woman and he should follow through on that pledge. For a number of reasons, choosing her is politically safe.
In the same announcement, Biden needs to boldly declare that Trump’s historic and massive failures require courageous political solutions.
My first presidential action will be to immediately sign an executive order establishing two new VP-advisory positions. These positions will work side-by-side with Kamala and myself for the entire 4-year term. Senator Bernie Sanders and Gretchen Whitmer have agreed to join us in this role.
This solves every Joe Biden campaign problem at once.
Unprecedented campaigning power
Biden instantly captures massive voting blocks. He adds unprecedented campaigning power.
Low numbers with young voters? Bernie solves that.
Want to shore up a critical swing state? Whitmer addresses that. Her appointment also reassures centrist and demographically-conscious voters who hesitate to back Sanders.
The GOP’s reaction plays into this strategy!
The Republican party will lose their minds in ways we can’t even imagine. They will cry foul all day long.
That’s the plan.
This presents great opportunity for the combined media-presence of Biden, Harris, Sanders and Whitmer to endlessly hammer historic magnitude of Trump’s failures.
Every interview should begin by applauding Joe Biden’s bold strategy and then immediately tact into its necessity.
Discuss the deficit. Highlight unemployment numbers. Show the Q2 and Q3 GDP figures. Talk about the devastation of small business.
Four national voices beating that same drum constantly until November is extremely powerful.
Keeping it constitutional is easy!
Give Sanders and Whitmer whatever official titles that play best politically and electorally. Use focus groups to determine this.
The Chief of Staff position was not created until 1946 and does not require senatorial confirmation. The Office of American innovation operates out of the White House and was created by the Trump administration.
Obvious legal and constitutional precedence? Check.
Keep hidin’ Biden!
Too much exposure isn’t good for Biden. This strategy allows his campaign to continue hiding him.
This is essential for the campaign to win.
What’s the downside?
There isn’t one.
