After two weeks of the NFL season, one thing is crystal clear. The New England Patriots are the least fun fantasy football team in 2022. And the competition isn’t all that close. Of course, this won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who has followed football over the past 20 years.
Bill Belichick has repeatedly gone on record with his disdain for fantasy football. However, he has really taken things to the next level this season with one of the most uninspired, dour offenses you will ever see. The combination of Joe Judge and Matt Patricia has been as incompetent as expected.
New England has mustered a paltry 24 points through two weeks. What’s worse is the fact this is an offense that looks like it is being led by a special teams coordinator and defensive coordinator. And by that, I mean it appears as if Judge and Patricia are doing everything in their power to get the offense off the field.
However, this is only one reason the Patriots are the least fun fantasy football team in 2022. Let’s talk about their seemingly random player usage. In week 1, Ty Montgomery received five touches. Yes, he scored a touchdown. He also looked like a running back who has no business playing in the NFL.
Rhamondre Stevenson and Damien Harris are both solid backs, but neither handles enough volume to be anything other than touchdown or bust plays most weeks. New England’s backfield situation has always been messy under Belichick, but the ceiling and floor were high in most years. That’s not the case this season.

Offseason acquisition DeVante Parker has one catch for nine yards in two games. Nelson Agholor blew up for six catches, 110 yards and a score against the Steelers after failing to surpass 75 yards or five catches in any game last season for the Pats.
Perhaps the biggest example of why New England is the least fun fantasy football team in 2022 resides in the tight end room. Prior to the 2021 offseason, the Patriots spent big money to sign Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. It was expected they would both be key cogs to the offense.
Instead, their usage has been sporadic. For example, the pair were held catchless against Pittsburgh. They combined for five receptions and 53 yards the week prior. What was the point of signing them both if you weren’t going to do anything with either player?
The New England Patriots are not fun from a fantasy football perspective. And from a neutral viewing standpoint, they are flat out boring.
