Just a reminder, the NBA wants to foist an unwanted midseason tournament upon fans

NBA midseason tournament Adam Silver
Someone just told the dude behind Steph Curry about the proposed NBA midseason tournament

The NBA continues to push for a midseason tournament that literally no one is asking for. There is not a single intelligent basketball fan clamoring for the same pool of teams to play each other for contrived stakes. Seriously, even the most contrarian of sports pundits can only muster half-hearted defenses of the concept.

  • “Well, it could be interesting.”
  • “Sometimes new stuff can be good.”
  • “Adam Silver was correct about the play-in tournament so maybe he’s on to something here.”

These are not compelling arguments. But let’s focus on that last point. The NBA play-in tournament, which is now official after its trial run, actually had support from some fans because the concept made sense. It wasn’t universally beloved by any means. But there was a lively debate about the validity and potential of it. In the end, Adam Silver was right, and it has been a success.

Those same debates aren’t happening about the NBA midseason tournament. No one thinks it is an interesting idea. Well, I mean there are some folks on Twitter who say it will be cool, but there are literally people on the platform defending every ludicrous claim. It’s a surprise noted scumbag Elon Musk wants to back out of his deal to buy the tech giant. Those two are a match made in heaven.

Enough about that. The point is basketball fans don’t want the NBA midseason tournament. They can’t even be troubled to call out just how stupid of an idea it is anymore. How’s that not at all confusing WNBA Commissioner’s Cup doing? Oh yeah, no one cares.

The NBA trying to foist a midseason tournament upon the world reminds me of an old co-worker who would go around bragging about not wearing a seatbelt and telling others to do the same. Everyone knew what he was doing was incredibly dumb, but none of us could be bothered to engage him on the subject. It wasn’t an argument worth having. Instead, we all just hoped he would get into a car accident and see for himself the consequences of his actions.

So, you know what Adam Silver, push your lame, unwanted competition upon the NBA. You’re going to do it anyway. But when it tanks because fans aren’t invested in extra games that are no different from the regular season, don’t blame us for its failure. We tried telling you not to do it.
