As much as we all love unearthing sleepers, finding good players on bad teams and being the smartest fantasy football manager in the room, it’s usually best not to overthink things. This is the case when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs.
There is a desire to nitpick a team that has finished top-six in points scored and yards gained in each of the past three seasons. It is almost like everyone wants to predict the ship is sinking before it actually starts taking on water.
Here’s the thing with Kansas City; their offense is probably going to be better than it was in 2019. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is an upgrade on the mishmash of running backs used last season. Having a dependable running game should open things up for Patrick Mahomes and the passing game which looked out of synch at times.
The main issue with Chiefs’ players is that you have to pay a premium to draft them. And yet, that premium is usually worth it.

Kansas City Chiefs 2020 Fantasy Football Overview: Players to watch
Stud – Travis Kelce
If you’re going to draft a tight end early, you might as well make it a guy you can depend on. Travis Kelce has at least 83 catches and more than 1,000 yards in each of the past four seasons. His touchdown numbers have never been great, he only had five last season, but he’s basically a lock to see eight targets a game which provides an elite weekly floor.
Dud – None
Sure, we could put someone like Sammy Watkins here, but no one is drafting him anyway. It’s hard to imagine someone in Kansas City completely crapping out in 2020 unless they get hurt.
Sleeper – None
Similarly, everyone in Kansas City is a known commodity. You aren’t getting any real value here and none of the backup running backs are dynamic enough for a stash.
Wildcard – Mecole Hardman
Believe it or not, Mecole Hardman was second on the team with six touchdown catches last season despite only having 26 receptions. It will interesting to see if he has an expanded role in 2020 similar to what the Chiefs did with Tyreek Hill. In his first season, he wasn’t featured heavily but would explode into a WR1 during his second campaign. It is difficult to see Hardman having more than 60 catches, but that could be enough to get him to 1,000 receiving yards. On the flipside, it’s also possible that his usage stays the same in 2020.
Kansas City Chiefs 2020 Fantasy Football Overview final thoughts
Everything points to the Kansas City Chiefs scoring a lot in 2020. The wide receiving corps beyond Hill isn’t particularly reliable on a weekly basis, but Kelce, Mahomes and Edwards-Helaire are all going to provide outstanding production if healthy. Also keep an eye on their DST which had some sneaky good games last season.
