The narrative that Liverpool fans at the Champions League final are somehow victims needs to stop. Anyone who has attended a Premier League game or even watched one at a pub with a couple of English blokes knows just how stupid and menacing this group is. Let’s start with the obvious.
If Liverpool fans at the Champions League final had been able to maintain orderly lines and show a modicum of patience, there is no issue here. There were literally no issues with Real Madrid supporters who entered the stadium without making a complete ass out of themselves.
Multiple reports cite fake tickets as the cause of the backup at the stadium. That sucks. But if your ticket can’t be scanned, then you aren’t getting into the game. Haranguing workers and causing a small-scale riot won’t change the situation. My experience with Brits overseas also leads me to believe a large number of them shouted at the French staff to speak English. That’s a very real thing, by the way.
What really takes the cake here are Liverpool supporters claiming to have been behaving well. Pardonne-moi? Anyone who has ever encountered a group of British soccer fans knows that is patently false.
These are just gangs of dickheads who firmly believe rules do not apply to them until someone lays down the law.
I will forever remember being at the 2015 Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore where a group of liquored up Stoke City fans thought they were in charge. At one point, a family politely asked them to move because they were sitting in their seats.
The response of these dickheads was to take off their shirts and start singing “We’re Stoke City, we sit where we want”. Well, that family left and about ten minutes later a couple of police officers carrying rifles showed up to tell this group they needed to put their shirts on and go to their seats. And they did so post haste.
This isn’t even an exception. Every encounter I’ve ever had with British soccer supporters has played out like that. The sport is just an excuse for them to not listen and treat people like crap. Liverpool fans at the Champions League final weren’t victims. They were the problem. And the world shouldn’t have to tolerate their terrible behavior.
