MASN is the worst regional sports network in America. That is quite an accomplishment considering how terrible most of these channels are. However, the Orioles and Nationals broadcaster has far bigger issues than homer announce teams and an incredulous dearth of watchable programming.
Seriously, why does every regional sports network’s lineup consist of one or two pro teams; some random college games; poor quality high school contests on tape delay; a ton of poker; a handful of dreadful coach’s shows; paid programming; and, if you’re lucky, a few sports movies you probably never heard of?
Sorry, what was I talking about again? Oh, that’s right, MASN is the worst regional sports network in America. There was some good news here as they were recently forced to suck it. Not literally, mind you. But proverbially speaking.
The good ol’ Mid-Atlantic Sports Network thought no one would notice their television broadcast team calling games remotely. They actually tried to sweep this under the rug before the season got underway by saying COVID-19 issues were the reason they weren’t sending announcers on the road.
And then Opening Day arrived. People quickly noticed the awful broadcasts of Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals road games. Blaming the pandemic at this point was a lame excuse everyone saw through. MASN was simply trying to save a few measly dollars. Things got worse when some person at the network used corporate jargon to explain it was all about the Benjamins.
“The global pandemic required all of us to learn new lessons in innovation, resourcefulness, and resilience. MASN is carrying forward some of those lessons,” MASN Spokesman Todd Webster wrote to the Washington Post.
Fans were having none of that nonsense and revolted immediately. The backlash was so fierce, MASN backtracked a few days later and agreed to send television crews on the road. In other words, they had to suck it. This is what they get for being a bunch of cheapskates.
