Music Video Review: Jay-Z gives it to us or he just wants to love us?

I’m about to get on some old man, music was better in my day shit. You’ve been warned.

Jay-Z had an incredible run from 1999 to 2001 that doesn’t nearly get talked about nearly enough. He dropped some classic albums and with that came some classic music videos. Somewhere in between the near pornographic levels of eroticism Big Pimpin and the general tameness of Girls, Girls, Girls came I Just Wanna Luv U (Give It 2 Me). It’s epic. They don’t make songs or music videos like this today.

If you were a white kid in the suburbs between the ages of 14 and 18, this was your jam on the rare day you weren’t pissed off at the world and listening to Eminem. And vide remains entertaining as hell. It’s easy to see why it dominated 106 & Park for seemingly ever. Kids, this is how you do music.

Song: I Just Wanna Luv U (Give It 2 Me)

Artist: Jay-Z

Year: 2000

Quote it:

Same song, I’m back, been around the world
Ro-mancing girls that dance with girls
From, Club Cheetah, to Club Amnesia
The Peanuts in L.A., Bubblin’ in Dublin”

Best Video Moment: Memphis Bleek stepping in for Jay with the chick in the bedroom.

Jay-Z get you bling like the Neptune sound

If it wasn’t for Jay Z’s use of a Motorola two-way pager, Lil’ Kim not looking completely awful and the old Roc-a-Fella crew being a good terms, this video could has easily been made within the past year. It looks remarkably good for something filmed 20 years ago. I am not 100 percent sure the dad from Wayans Bros. is still alive, so he might have to be replaced. Although, they may just be able to put him in as a hologram.

The song itself also holds up remarkably well considering a lot of Neptunes’ beats did not make it past 2008 without sounding dated. The only downside of this song is that I am not sure anyone actually knows what the title is.

Jay-Z dropped the ball on this one. If you have a phrase in parenthesis in your song title, chances are you gave it the wrong name.
