Da BackWudz and the You Gonna Luv Me music video are a very specific moment in time. If you didn’t watch MTV Jams or Direct Effect during a two-week period in 2004, you probably wouldn’t know this was a thing. They came out of nowhere and were gone in the blink of an eye.
You Gonna Luv Me was Jam of the Week and that video played a ton during those seven days. It was still in rotation the following week, but that was about it. Da BackWudz and this music video just disappeared. Which is a total shame because it’s awesome.
The song is great, and while the video is bereft of memorable moments, You Gonna Luv Me is fun to watch. It was definitely cool for them to film it in Decatur, Georgia and show off another side of Atlanta. Before this, and after it if we’re being honest, most Atlanta music videos were either a showcase for Magic City or the trap. And, of course, there was whatever Outkast was doing.
Song: You Gonna Luv Me
Artist: Da BackWudz (featuring Milwaukee Black but he’s not credited)
Year: 2004
Quote it:
I’m 31 and my rappin’ is done
I got a million dollar company to run…beeyatch
Best Video Moment: I don’t know why, but the guy in the Braves jacket and hat running into the street at 0:57 is the most memorable thing. Years later and the image is still burned into my brain.

There is no story being told in the You Gonna Luv Me music video. They have like three locations, some cars and a handful of dancers. On the surface, it sounds like it would suck, but that’s not the case. This is a music video where the end product is greater than the sum of its parts.
Who is that random guy rapping in the You Gonna Luv Me music video?
There are three people rapping in You Gonna Luv Me, but Da BackWudz only had two members. This always bothered me. Especially considering how lazy and crappy the third guy was. What is this guy bringing to the table? And if he’s not part of the group, why not give him a feature credit? He’s not important enough to acknowledge but also needs to be in the song and video.
Apparently, he is Milwaukee Black although I can find no more information on him apart from that. For someone allegedly running a million-dollar company at the time, he mysteriously has no internet presence at all.
