NFL Draft 2020 betting: Are there any wagers that make sense?

NFL Draft 2020 betting
The draft won't be in Las Vegas and that makes betting on it even more difficult

NFL Draft 2020 betting will provide a respite from the current situation. Unless, of course, you enjoy wagering on the Belarussian soccer league. The problem is this NFL Draft will be unlike anything that came before it. Teams normally have time to research and fall in love with prospects. This leads to surprise picks and the Vikings doing stupid things.

That isn’t happening this year. The NFL Combine allowed teams to see potential draft picks in the flesh, but pro days and meetings in team facilities are far more important. Those not taking place significantly alter NFL Draft 2020 betting.

As much as I hate to say it, favorites are the way to go. Could there be a surprise during the first round of the draft? Sure. But are you confident on figuring it out and putting money down on the swerve?

In many ways, NFL Draft 2020 betting feels like wagering on pre-season games. You may know the players and teams, but there are just so many other variables surrounding the pre-season to get an accurate read on how to bet. That being said, there are two wagers that stand out.

2 NFL Draft 2020 betting picks

1) Under 4.5 quarterbacks drafted in the first round

2/9 (Bet 365)

-450 (William Hill)

Jordan Love probably shouldn’t be drafted in the first round. Not with those comparisons to Mitch Trubisky floating around. Despite this, the Utah State quarterback seems like a lock to be taken on the first night of the draft, but the pickings are really slim are after Love. Most experts put Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason as the next best quarterbacks, and neither are even close to first round talents unless you really love Georgia football.

If you watched Fromm at all, his ceiling is maybe Derek Carr. Some of the draft experts are mocking the New England Patriots to take him, but it could be argued that Fromm is just a younger version of Brian Hoyer. Going under 4.5 quarterbacks drafted in the first round is the best play when it comes to NFL Draft 2020 betting.

2) Chase Young to be the second overall pick

2/7 (Bet 365)

-300 (William Hill)

During Ron Rivera’s nine-year spell as the Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers, the team took a defensive player five times. Three of these picks went toward defensive lineman. Given the defensive background of Rivera coupled with the fact the draft is extremely deep at wide receiver, Washington seems like a lock to take Chase Young with the second pick.

For those thinking Rivera and the front office might move down in the draft, the Panthers never traded their assigned pick during Rivera’s tenure. Things could always change, but I wouldn’t bet on it here.
