No disrespect to the playoffs, but it just isn’t the same. The 2021 NFL regular season is over and it’s a sad time for football. No more parlays or fantasy. Scott Hanson has already bid us goodbye at RedZone. It is only a matter of days before we find ourselves left with no games at all. The end is nigh.

When Daniel Carlson kicked a field goal in overtime on Sunday Night Football, he was also consigning us to our destiny. Life without football. As it stands now, the 2021 NFL regular season is over, and we now face a sad reality.

Wild Card Weekend is normally okay. It doesn’t feel quite like the previous 18 weeks but there is a solid level of activity happening. Things start to get a bit thin during the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. The Conference Championships are the last real games of the season but the void surrounding that weekend is very noticeable.

And that’s it. The Super Bowl may be a spectacle, but it is not a real football game. It’s kind of like when a sitcom does a clip show but tries to frame it as an actual episode. You will watch and it can be good. However, it is just not the same.

With the 2021 NFL regular season finished, we are left feeling sad. Nothing on the sporting calendar matches the past four or so months. Sure, there are some highlights. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are always awesome. Basketball and baseball have moments here and there. Wimbledon is interesting. Australian sports can be good if you don’t mind the time shenanigans.

Ultimately, most of us will try to fill the football-shaped hole in our lives with more football. Some hopeless romantic will give spring football a try for like the 100th time only to fail. Every slapdick on Twitter will ramble on about some 5th round rookie running back they think will be a star after the NFL Draft. A few deranged individuals (*cough Me *cough) will watch 720p streams of arena football games on YouTube. The struggle is real.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t have it any other way. More doesn’t exactly mean better. Hell, it usually makes things worse. The 2021 NFL regular season is over and it’s a sad time. But that is okay.
