Good luck trying to figure what the hell is going on during the Heat music video from 50 Cent

We here at The Touchback HQ didn’t discover the Heat music video from 50 Cent until last month. It was surprising to find out this existed considering how big both Fifty and Get Rich Or Die Trying were for us in high school. In some ways, it was like putting on an old coat finding a $20 bill. You just take the free money and don’t ask questions about the origin.

Anyway, most people will likely dismiss the Heat music video from 50 Cent on first glance. Honestly, we probably would have done the same when this came out. It would have been tough to get past the less than stellar graphics and confusing storyline.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing, however. And this pushes all the right nostalgia buttons to overcome a number of flaws. In case you have never seen it, here is the Heat music video from 50 Cent in all its glory:

What makes the Heat music video from 50 Cent awesome?

The homage to Grand Theft Auto is what really makes the Heat music video from 50 great. It is an absolutely outstanding recreation of the video game series. The graphics don’t look bad. They look exactly as they should.

Now, the storyline to the video is confusing. Is that guy who got punked by his friend really thinking about shooting him in real life? Why not take action when he got kicked off the sticks? Nothing here makes any sense at all.

But that kind of makes it awesome. It doesn’t need to make sense. Why should it? The music video isn’t for some deep retrospection or to learn some lesson. There is no takeaway to be had. And that’s okay.

It must be said, 50 Cent’s role in all this also has no purpose. He’s the boss mission in the game but ends up getting away. What was the point of that? It’s almost seems as if there was no director or storyboard. Some poor video editor was just handed a bunch of footage and the Heat track and told to make a music video.

Whatever the case may be, everything came together famously. This is an outstanding rap music video, albeit one that is flawed and utterly confusing.
