Finding the least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys was difficult. Lucky for you, I went through a lot of awful ones to find a few that aren’t totally embarrassing to do while at home. This isn’t to say you will be amped to complete these workouts, but at least you won’t be ashamed in case someone catches you in the act.
And really, that was the guiding principle here. In order to qualify for our least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys’ list, each video needed two things. Firstly, the instructor can’t be a total tool. No telling me about how I’m changing my life by finishing this set in the middle of a workout. I’m just doing this so I don’t turn into a complete slob and get diabetes while stuck at home.
Secondly, the workout should actually feel like a workout with different exercises. A lot of these YouTube workout videos are like 80 percent ab focused or basically doing ten different variations of a lunge. If I wanted an ab workout, I could do that myself. I’m here to burn some calories, respect it.
With that in mind, here are three of the least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys. These aren’t as good as going to the gym, but you won’t feel like a total douche completing these workouts.
1) Brutal HIIT Ladder Workout – 20 Minute HIIT Workout at Home
From: FitnessBlender
This is a good workout that actually leaves me feeling tired afterwards. It’s four exercises in HIIT ladder style that you do in 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 second intervals. The trainer is there, but he is not overbearing or even noticeable for that matter. The video presentation is also straightforward, so I don’t feel like a loser if my wife walks in.
The only real complaint I have about the video is that there is no cool down. You end this intense workout and then it’s sort of like, great job, you’re on your own for the cool down. Also, it’s only a 20-minute workout which feels a little short.
2) 25-minute Interval Cardio Workout from Home
From: Body Project
The male trainer in this video got on my nerves a few times with his incessant positivity, but it was never bad enough for me to stop. The length of the workout and the combo moves get your heartrate up. There is a warm up and cool down in this video, so it does feel complete.
The presentation is okay as well. I mean it’s unisex, which I appreciate. All of the least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys feature sets without ferns or other things that make it look like a women’s bathroom.
3) 30 Minute Low Impact HIIT Workout for Fat Loss – At Home HIIT Exercises – For Bad Knees
From: FitnessType
This workout is great as I have a bad knee and a lot of workouts on YouTube feature insane amounts of jumping. Living on the 7th floor of a condo building, I wouldn’t want to be jumping even with good knees. This video is a lot of action and at 30 minutes, the length is ideal. Some of the individual moves felt kind of lame to do, but that’s the only negative I could find.
The instructor is harmless, mostly chiming in with generic motivational phrases and support. You never feel as if this is a woman’s workout which plagues a lot of the female-created workout videos on YouTube. The trainer here isn’t creating a men’s or women’s workout, just something anyone can do.
How to find the least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys?
In searching for the least embarrassing YouTube workouts for average guys, I do have some tips to find new videos. The first thing you want to take note is the background of the video. Can you picture yourself working out there in real life? If you answer no, chances are the video isn’t going to be for you. Generic backgrounds and ones that look like regular fitness studios are the way to go.
I’d also recommend skipping ahead in the video before going through with the workout just to see how overbearing the instructor is. This is a lesson I learned early on. I started a couple of YouTube workouts only to get annoyed with the trainer constantly preaching at me. That’s the absolute worst.
