Mike Evans' next QB probably won't be as good as his last one

There is always uncertainty for those preparing for startup dynasty drafts, fielding trade offers or needing to pick their players in keeper leagues. However, there is at least some idea in regard to the range of outcomes for most teams. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the biggest fantasy football mystery heading into 2022 and it’s impossible to know what the hell will happen with them.

Tom Brady retired. Ke’Shawn Vaughn is the only running back under contract. Chris Godwin is hurt and could leave in free agency. Rob Gronkowski is openly flirting with the Cincinnati Bengals.

At the same time, Brady could apparently return to the Buccaneers which would likely see Gronkowski come back as well. The team wants to resign Godwin and could opt to retain Leonard Fournette.

From a fantasy football perspective, it’s a freaking disaster. Literally any and everything is on the table for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers which makes them the biggest fantasy football mystery in 2022. This could easily be one of the best offenses in the NFL again next season or one of the worst.

And that makes it near impossible to figure out what to do with players like Mike Evans, Gronkowski and even Vaughn. They aren’t really buy low candidates because their value could completely crater with Kyle Trask or Blaine Gabbert as Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback. No one knows how this season’s game of signal caller musical chairs will play out, but someone always loses.

Even if the team found itself with a passer such as Jimmy Garoppolo, the offense could still regress massively. With very little cap space, Tampa Bay is limited in how they can build around their new quarterback.

Looking long term, the entire situation is about to fall apart. Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians is approaching 70 and won’t be on the job for much longer. Brady coming back would be a one-year fix to a problem that isn’t going anywhere. This thing is getting blown up sooner rather than later.

Not only are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the biggest fantasy football mystery heading into 2022, but they are probably a franchise you avoid in dynasty leagues. Unless, of course, you think Trask is going to be an NFL-caliber starter. That is not something we’re willing to bet on.
