This is the most hated person in all of college football

You probably don’t know the most hated person in college football. It’s not a player, coach or referee. It’s not the money-grubbing presidents or shady power brokers hellbent on killing traditions. Hell, it’s not even dumb ass Bill Hancock. The thing is, most people won’t even know this person exists.

Especially if you don’t attend games. This evil character is an anonymous figure doing the bidding of others. The most hated person in all of college football is this fucking guy:

Nevada the most hated person in college football
Here is the most hated person in college football in action

No, not him personally. Every televised college football game has someone like him carrying out orders from television networks to stop the action. Of course, you wouldn’t even realize this individual exists if you aren’t in the stadium. When games go to commercial breaks, these bums amble out onto the field to let everyone know just how long there won’t be any action.

If you’re lucky, the board will read 2:05 or 2:35. Sometimes it flashes a dreaded four. Whatever the case may be, it is the absolute worst. Screw this person for participating in the ridiculous elongation of college football games.

I recently had the displeasure of attending Colorado State versus Nevada in Reno. This was a truly awful matchup featuring a pair of bad teams. And this freaking game would not end. There was one sequence that played out as follows:

  • Punt
  • TV Timeout
  • 3-and-out
  • TV Timeout
  • 3-and-out
  • TV Timeout

That is so dumb. This sequence took up roughly four minutes of game time but had more than seven minutes of commercial breaks. It kills any possible momentum or flow. And this isn’t limited to national broadcasts.

Games on the Pac-12 Network have obscene amounts of this dude coming out onto the field with his sign. I watch a ton of Pac-12 Network and, honestly, I didn’t realize they had commercial breaks. What is playing during these? They can’t all be needed.

Gameday entertainment staff aren’t able to keep up with all these ridiculous breaks this dudes instigates. Towards the end of games, they simply stop trying. At a recent Oregon State home encounter, the PA person was just playing full songs waiting for the most hated person in all of college football to put his board away and scurry back to the sideline.

Students have more or less given up on sitting through entire games. Regardless of score or excitement, they dip out at halftime as they have better things to do than watch some rando hold a countdown clock with a few football plays mixed in. Seriously, who can blame them?

Whoever is holding this sign at games in any given stadium is without a doubt the most hated person in all of college football. And for good reason. They ruin the experience for fans attending games in person and cause those watching on television to change the channel or start diddling on their phone.

In a sport full of detestable, loathsome characters, the individual doing this somehow takes the cake. Congrats, I guess.
