Justin Herbert week 3 bold starts
Justin Herbert is worth a start in week 3 since he's facing a pretty bad Carolina Panthers defense

Sometimes playing it safe just isn’t very fun. And on other occasions, you may not want to be stuck playing a high-floor/low-ceiling guy such as Cole Beasley. That’s why Our fantasy football correspondent, @dadbodfantasyfootball, has put together a list of week 3 fantasy football bold starts.

Week 3 bold starts

QB – Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert found out he was the starter in week 2 literally at kick-off. After a team doctor punctured the lung of Tyrod Taylor, Herbert was informed he would get the nod. What does he do in his first career NFL start? Only throw for 311 yards and a touchdown to go along with a rushing score against the defending Super Bowl champions. Herbert did make a few rookie mistakes, but that looked more like nerves than anything.

Once he found his rhythm, he looked like an NFL quarterback. Herbert had a few good runs, even barreling into Tyrann Mathieu instead of avoiding contact. We will see if he can be even more effective when the Los Angeles Chargers put together an offensive strategy suited to his skill set. This week he goes up against a Carolina Panther team that has allowed the sixth most points per game in the league.

RB – D ’Andre Swift, Detroit Lions

D ’Andre Swift has split time with Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson so far this season. He has mostly been used in passing situations, but saw an increase in snaps in week 2. While Swift is clearly the future, he has already made an early impression which has led to the increased usage. In both games, Swift has been targeted five times while hauling in eight of those targets. If the Lions end up in a shootout or fall behind, Swift could be on the field a lot. Swift should be on your radar this week, especially if you are in a PPR league.

WR – Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers

With Davante Adams listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Saints, Lazard should receive a decent uptick in targets. The Green Bay Packers offense has been firing on all cylinders so far this season as Aaron Rodgers’ revenge tour continues. They lead the league in yards per game and points per game. Lazard is a big threat in the red zone at 6’5 and has been extremely efficient this year. He’s scored 25.7 points on just nine targets so far. With Adams getting 20 targets in that same span, it’s safe to say that Lazard could realistically see double digit targets on Sunday.

TE- Drew Sample, Cincinnati Bengals

I did not know who Drew Sample was before last week. But with C.J. Uzomah suffering an Achilles injury against the Browns, it was Sample’s time to step up as TE1 for Cincinnati. He came into the game and was targeted 10 times by Joe Burrow. The Bengals offense leads the league in pass attempts a game which is good news for “fantasy football drew sample”.

The former Washington Husky looked like Burrow’s security blanket throughout the game, gathering all the check down looks. With defenses having to focus on Tyler Boyd and AJ Green, Sample could quietly have another big game in week 3. They go up against a banged up 0-2 Eagles team that has struggled out of the gates.
