Tyrion Davis-Price has no fantasy football prospects for 2022 and beyond

Tyrion Davis-Price fantasy football 2022
If that player comparison doesn't scare you, we have even more facts that will

Tyrion Davis-Price is not a running back to have on your fantasy football radar in 2022, or any other year for that matter. Remember when a bunch of those Twitter experts got hyped on Ke’Shawn Vaughn when he was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and then stopped talking about him entirely until he showed up again late last season? Well, they are trying to steer you wrong once more.

For starters, Davis-Price’s Player Profiler comparison of Wayne Gallman should be a huge red flag. However, a more apt example just may be Matt Jones. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, he’s the former Florida running back taken by Washington in 2016 who did next to nothing in the pros after one okay-ish season in college.

You can literally replace the words Florida, Washington and 2016 with LSU, San Francisco and 2022 in the previous sentence to describe Davis-Price. That’s not even a joke. These two appear to be interchangeable.

Draft capital and why Tyrion Davis-Price has no fantasy football prospects for 2022

The big buzz word from those Twitter experts is “draft capital” when describing why Tyrion Davis-Price is a fantasy football sleeper in 2022. While the LSU rusher was selected in the third round, there are two clear trends of success to note.

A first group of good-to-great fantasy football running backs have been taken in the third round since 2013: Antonio Gibson, Alvin Kamara, David Johnson and Kareem Hunt. This quartet were all overlooked and/or had red flags heading into the draft which is why they fell.

The second group isn’t as impressive but has been fantasy relevant at the very least:

  • David Montgomery
  • Damien Harris
  • Darrell Henderson
  • James Conner
  • Devin Singletary

This group of players all had multiple 1,000-yard seasons in college with each one but Montgomery averaging more than five yards per carry. Every other running back taken in the third round between 2013-2020 has done very little. Sorry Tevin Coleman fans, but dude has never been fantasy relevant.

Returning to Tyrion Davis-Price and his fantasy football outlook for 2022. Simply put, the running back doesn’t fall into either group. That means avoid him. If anything, he is the type of guy you want to fool other managers in your league into drafting. The pitch here is simple.

“The San Francisco 49ers always have a running back committee, and they took him in the third round. He is going to get a shot.”

In reality, Davis-Price is the fourth best rusher on the team and even if he gets a shot, history shows it won’t amount to much.
